Introducing Season 13 Protostars

August 4, 2026

One of the most common themes to come out of Season 13 applications was: do-it-yourself.

As I read through the final list of 35 Protostars, I think the first words I dm’d Theia were, “YAY!!!!” and “it’s giving DIY.”

What struck us most about the list of projects was that it felt like none of these Protostars waited for their ideas to exist or things to be perfect before they gave it a shot. It was as if, in unison, they all said "f**k it" and decided it was time for it to be unleashed into the world. Whatever wasn't out there for them to connect to or be part of - the game, the tool, the community - they decided it was their chance to do it themselves.

Before we dive in we'd love to extend special thanks to those who helped us select this cohort: Alice Young, Anne Chang, Daniel Ding, Jack Fahey, Madison Dell'Aquila and Michael Nefiodovas.

Ethan [Static] | A comedy short about a burnt-out student and a roommate addicted to television static after a storm kills the internet.
